The National Anthem Of Canada
"O Canada" is the national anthem of Canada, officially adopted on July 1, 1980. The song was originally composed by Calixa Lavallée for the 1880 Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day ceremony, with French lyrics written by Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier. The English version, written by Robert Stanley Weir in 1908, gained popularity and was later modified to use gender-neutral language in 2018.
Lyrics
English Lyrics
O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all of us command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
French Lyrics
Ô Canada! Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
